PURPOSE: The Volunteer Coordinator maintains the Grace Healthcare Services volunteer program with compliance of company policies and procedures and federal and state guidelines. The Volunteer Coordinator screens, recruit, orients and trains prospective Hospice volunteers in both patient care and non-patient care settings to provide excellent customer service and quality client care.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A minimum of 1 year Volunteer Coordinator experience preferred particularly in recruitment, training and supervision of volunteers
  • Excellent administrative abilities, outstanding interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively, sensitively, and compassionately

RESPONSIBILITIES (including, but not limited to):

This position has supervisory duties

  • Recruit, select and assign volunteers for newly admitted patients/families with input from the Interdisciplinary Team and to work in the office as needed.
  • Notify volunteers of patient information and changes including patient transitions.
  • Assess the volunteers' working relationship with the team.
  • Be available by phone or in person for the volunteer(s) to discuss their role with patients/families.
  • Maintain a regular flow of correspondence, notices and verbal contact with all volunteers.
  • Ensure up-to-date and timely charting and submission of progress notes; contact volunteers when updates are not submitted.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of assignments including monthly and quarterly service hours and wages.
  • Maintain monthly Brightree reports: scan progress notes, enter visits into AFO, update care plans.
  • Ensure documentation of services to all patients and families are added to the patient's medical chart.
  • Plan and implement the volunteer training course.
  • Plan in-services for volunteers as well as other special events.
  • Participate as a member of the Interdisciplinary Team and attend other staff meetings as appropriate.
  • Attend outside Hospice organization meetings and events.
  • Maintain record of volunteer attendance at in-services, support groups, and other special events.
  • Attend volunteer support group meetings.
  • Supervise the publication of a volunteer newsletter.
  • Adhere to the practice of confidentiality with regard to patients, staff, customers and all aspects of the organization.
  • Ensure that Grace Healthcare Services best practices are incorporated into all job activities/responsibilities.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.

What you need:

  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Minimum 3 years experience as a Volunteer Coordinator required
  • Ability to supervise and motivate staff
  • Previous community marketing experience preferred
  • Outstanding interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Excellent administrative and organization skills.
  • Proficient in Word and Excel
